Stop Watching the Wind

Liberty Worship Christian Center sermon devotional about trusting God during life’s storms and uncertainty

Ecclesiastes 11:4 (NLT)

“Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.”

Fear has a way of making us freeze.

Sometimes life becomes so overwhelming that we stop moving altogether. We stop trusting. We stop praying boldly. We stop taking steps of faith because we become consumed with what could go wrong.

That is exactly what Ecclesiastes warns us about. The writer says people who constantly watch the wind never plant. People who obsess over the clouds never harvest. In other words, if we spend all our time studying the chaos, we may completely miss the season God is trying to grow us in.

During Sunday’s message, Liberty Worship was reminded of a powerful truth:

“While you're watching the wind, you're looking at the chaos.”

Many of us have become experts at watching problems. We replay situations in our minds. We anticipate worst-case scenarios. We focus on instability, uncertainty, and fear until obedience feels impossible.

But faith has never required perfect conditions.

Noah built while the world looked crazy. Peter stepped onto unstable water. Israel walked through wilderness seasons without knowing every detail ahead of them. Throughout Scripture, God moved through people who trusted Him in uncertain moments.

The storm never meant God stopped working.

In fact, sometimes the wind is exactly where God does His greatest work. Difficult seasons expose weak foundations, deepen our dependence on Him, and remind us that our security was never supposed to come from circumstances in the first place.

The danger is not the wind. The danger is becoming spiritually stuck because of fear.

Some people delay obedience waiting for clarity that only comes after movement. Others postpone healing, forgiveness, purpose, or serving because they are waiting for life to feel safer first. But if we only move when conditions are comfortable, we may never move at all.

God is still faithful in uncertain seasons.

And even in the middle of chaos, He is still calling His people to trust Him enough to keep planting.

Pause + Reflect

What area of your life has fear caused you to pause in?

Have you been more focused on the storm than the God who is with you in it?

Action Step

This week, identify one thing fear has delayed in your life and take one intentional step forward in faith.

Pray again. Trust again. Serve again. Move again.

Do not allow fear to keep you spiritually stuck.

As we continue learning how God works even in difficult seasons, we invite you to worship with us this Sunday at Liberty Worship Christian Center.
