Focus Isn’t Optional, It’s Commanded

Scripture doesn’t talk about focus as a personality trait or a productivity hack. It talks about it as obedience. Colossians 3:2 doesn’t say try to focus or feel focused, it says, “Set your mind on things above.”
That language is intentional. God never told us to feel our way forward; He told us to make a decision about where our mind would live. Focus is less about motivation and more about direction. When our attention is scattered, our obedience often is too. And the truth is, distraction doesn’t usually show up loudly, it shows up quietly, pulling us just far enough away from what God already told us to do.
James reminds us that hearing without doing is not neutral, it’s incomplete obedience. That’s why distraction becomes dangerous when God has already spoken. It’s not that we don’t love God; it’s that we haven’t built systems to protect what He said.
Action step: take five minutes today and write down one instruction God has already given you, something clear, simple, and practical. Then ask yourself, What needs to be removed, adjusted, or scheduled so I can actually do this?
Focus grows when faith is supported by structure.
And if you’re looking for encouragement, clarity, and community as you learn to live this out daily, we’d love for you to worship with us this coming Sunday at Liberty Worship Christian Center. Let’s learn how to set our minds together.
