That Doesn’t Fit Anymore: When God Is Calling You to Grow

Growth means more than getting older. It means allowing God to change the parts of you that no longer reflect who He is calling you to become.

Sometimes, we try to move forward while holding on to old attitudes, habits, mindsets, and reactions. We ask God to change our circumstances, but we resist letting Him change us.

But familiar doesn’t always mean fitting.

You can outgrow the way you think, the way you respond, and the way you handle relationships. What worked in a previous season may not fit where God is taking you next.

Stop Patching What God Wants to Transform

In Mark 2:18-22, Jesus used the picture of new wine and old wineskins to show that what He brings cannot simply be added to the old.

Sometimes, we want Jesus to fix our problems without challenging our patterns. We want better relationships without changing our attitudes. We want peace without surrendering control. We want a new season while holding on to the same old ways.

But God isn't calling you to patch up your old life. He's calling you to be transformed.

Let Your Growth Show

Maturity isn't about becoming better than someone else. It's about becoming more like Jesus.

Ask yourself: What have I been holding on to that no longer fits who God is shaping me to become?

The reactions that controlled you before don't have to control you now. The habits you excused in the past don't have to follow you into your future.

You’ve grown, but you’re not finished growing.

Pause + Reflect

  • What attitude, habit, or mindset is God asking me to outgrow in this season?

  • Am I allowing God to transform me, or am I only asking Him to change my circumstances?

Action Step (Do This Today)

Identify one attitude, habit, or reaction you need to change. Instead of making excuses for it, bring it honestly before God and take one practical step toward change.

Growth begins when you stop defending what God is asking you to surrender.

Stop patching the old. Let God transform you.
